Story in the game: As a safety measure in case Diablos ever escaped his imprisonment, the ancient who created him fabricated Phoenix as well. The exact opposite of the evil incarnate, the ancient bird of fire posses the power of resurrection.

The avian is a peaceful being, harming no creature that it encounters. Phoenix was not trapped like Diablos, and was left to live anywhere it pleased. However, in the case that its enemy did appear, it is supposed to seek it and destroy him.

It is not known if the Phoenix’s power is any weaker or stronger then the demon, but its spirit is greater then anything ever known to man.

Hystory:Although the Phoenix is well known in legend, there are few classical stories associated with it from mythology. The Phoenix is a large bird that is revered around the world as a symbol of immortality and re-incarnation.

In Greek legend, the Phoenix lived in Arabia near a cool well. Every morning as the Sun rose and dawn broke, it would immerse itself in the cool clear water of the well and sing such a delightful and sweet song that the Sun God would stop his chariot to listen to the beautiful sound.

Every 500 years, as death approached, it would construct a nest of sweet smelling wood that it then set upon fire, the flames consuming the bird. From the ashes, a new Phoenix arose which would wrap up the ashes in a parcel of myrrh. Flying to Heliopolis, the "City of the Sun," also called On, in Egypt, it would deposit the ashes on the altar of the Ra, the Sun God.

In the Egyptian myth, it is known as Bennu, representing the rise of life and also the sun, announcing a new period of prosperity and fertility. It is also portrayed as a heron on the sarcophagi of the dead.

HISTORY: Reeve was your typical young boy who lived with a wealthy family in the city of Midgar. He attended private schools, the best colleges and universities. It was no wonder that he obtained a high class job with Shinra Inc.

Not only was Reeve a member of the Industrial Development Department in the corporation, but he was a spy as well. He controlled a stuffed fortune telling machine which consisted of a giant mog and a cat.

He was sent to join Cloud’s rebel group to find out information on the where about’s of Sephiroth, but he ended up joining their forces in an attempt to rid the world of both evils.

Once the saga was over, he returned to Midgar to help rebuild the city, but he still uses his robot to help his friends out.

HISTORY: Ever since Cid was a child he was infatuated with the sky and space. He was always told that man could never reach the sky, let alone space, but that never stopped his ambitions.

He joined Shinra as soon as he was old enough, and immediately started to study about the skies and the stars. Soon enough he became Shinra’s top official concerning air travel.

Following his dreams, Shinra Inc. released grants of large amounts into what was referred as the Shinra Space program. Cid helped design and build a rocket which was situated in Rocket Town.

All was set for take off until Shera, one of Cid’s technician’s, realized that one of the oxygen tanks was malfunctioning. She was willing to give up her life so that the take off could resume, but Cid gave up his dream instead. After that incident, the space program was canceled and the pilot was left with his Rocket and plane.

He continued to work on the contraption until AVALANCHE reached his town. After Shinra tried to take away his last possession, he joined the team to help stop the company from conquering the planet.

Once the meteor crisis came to an end, Cid went back to his home with Shera to continue his work on space and air travel.

HISTORY: Ever since she was a child, Yuffie has always been a troublemaker. Stealing small things at first, her taste for materia grew with her age. When Cloud's team of rebels encountered her in the forest, she vowed to get their materia as a way of revenge. Never fulfilling her self promise, she gained more wisdom, but not enough to keep herself clear of catastrophe.

With nothing else to do with her time, Yuffie stayed clear of Wutai, and her father, in search of bigger materia and bigger dreams.

HISTORY: Vincent Valentine was born in the city of Midgar, and as soon as he was 16 years old, he joined the Turks. Always trying to become the best at what he could do, he was an essential part of the ‘special’ group.

Later in his age he fell in love with a scientist named Lucrecia, and his feelings were returned. Both of them were involved deeply but problems began to arise during the JENOVA project. Hojo used Lucrecia as his guinea pig and injected his chromosomes as well as the DNA of Sephiroth into her womb. Vincent was out raged by the idea, but she insisted that her experiment must go on.

Vincent attempted to stop the entire process, however his efforts were vanquished when Hojo shot him and placed him in stasis. Lucrecia was assumed to have been killed during Sephiroth’s birth, and since then Vincent has not been able to let it go.

Hojo experimented on the former Turk, and implanted a metal arm to replace his left one. Once Hojo’s interest dried out, he locked Vincent in a coffin at the bottom of the Nibelheim basement, leaving him untouched till Cloud’s group discovered his body.

HISTORY: Red XIII is a mystical creature of Cosmo Canyon that has been traveling the world for quite some time. He lived in the canyon until the attack of the Gi. His mother was killed, and he believed that his father had run away from the battle although that was not the case.

Convinced that he was the last of his kind, Red set out into the out side world to learn about its customs and creatures. He traveled for months until he reached Midgar where he was captured and taken in for experimentation. Hojo thought that he was nothing more then a dumb animal but he was largely mistaken. This was obvious when he helped Cloud and Aeris by attacking Hojo.

He joined AVALANCHE that day, not to help them out at first, but to go back to his home. When they did arrive at Cosmo Canyon, he learned the truth about what his father did to save his home and since then he has looked up to him for strength and courage.

Once the meteor crisis came to an end, Red determined that he would continue to explore the planet and help his companions when ever they were in need of it.

Now Nanaki is the sole Guardian of Cosmo Canyon. Recently Seto had been brought back from his imprisonment in stone, and became evil. Nanaki found out and stopped Seto, but caused the death of his father. Nanaki then inherited a special Summons Materia, the Ancestor Summons--which summons all the previous Guardians.. Now Nanaki is training Neote, a young cub, to be the next Guardian of the Canyon.

HISTORY: Born in a lab, Sephiroth was misled for many years about his origins. He was gifted with a good soul, but when he discovered that he was a laboratory creation, it was enough to make him mad.

He became possessed with the idea of conquering the planet and going to the promised land, but his dreams were cut short when Cloud threw him off of a reactor balcony.

He remained entrapped in mako, but lead clones of himself to acquire the materials he needed to summon meteor.

Once his attempted reign was over, and he was defeated by AVALANCHE, he managed to escape death and escape the life stream when Cloud and the others revived Aeris. Since then he regained his calm nature and appeared to become the group's ally as opposed to its enemy. But is it just a ploy?

HISTORY: One of the last surviving ancients, Aeris has lived most of her life in misery. Her first home was in the Icicle Inn where her father professor Gast and her mother Iflana lived during their research. This was cut short when Hojo took over the science department and had Gast killed. Iflana was captured as was Aeris.

From that point on they were both subjected to experiments until Iflana was able to escape with Aeris. Her mother died, but the young Cetra was left in the caring hands of Elmyra.

Aeris grew up with this woman and spent much of her time running away from the Turks who were order to get her so that more research could be performed. That all changed when she met Cloud and the rest of AVALANCHE. She joined the rebel group to help save the planet, and although she accomplished this she paid with her life.

Once meteor was destroyed by the lifestream, her friends went on a quest to resurrect Aeris. They did this by finding the holy materia that had fallen at the bottom of the temple pond.

Since then Aeris has met up with her friends and she continues to help them save the planet from evil forces.
